Legrand Filles and Fils is one of the oldest wine merchants and fine grocers in France.Built in the XVIII century, former shop of the Grocers’ Corporation, the place which today houses the Legrand cellars took on its present appearance in 1880, when Monsieur Beaugé opened his spice warehouse, storing products such as tea, coffee, rum, ... >>>
<<< … and chocolate, imported by the East India Company. It was already a well-known fine grocery by the time Pierre Legrand took it over shortly after WW I. The Legrand family sold coffee, roasted in the back of the boutique, assorted spirits, candles and groceries. As for the wines, bought in barrels at the Bercy wine warehouses in Paris, and bottled on the premises, they were identified by their distinctive label, which stated: mis en bouteilles par le maitre épicier (bottled by the master grocer). Lucien Legrand, who succeeded his father in 1945, continued the adventure. In the l960s he was the first to scour the great winegrowing regions, discovering unknown wines whose fame he assured by having his clients sample them in his shop.
